Burger King splashes up $400,000 for YMCA Swim Meet
In its continued quest to foster youth development through competition in sports, fast food giants Burger King handed over a cheque valued at $400,000 to the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), for the 13th staging of the Burger King/YMCA All-Prep and Primary Schools Swim Meet at the National Stadium on Friday.
Brand Manager for Sponsorship, Nicholas Mundell, who handed over the cheque, said, “We are involved in a wide array of sports, and swimming is one of the areas in which we at Burger King invest. In 2013 we are again happy to be on board and this handing over represents our renewed commitment to continue our drive in providing exposure to Jamaica’s youth through meaningful competition in sports, as youth development is big on our portfolio.”
Meanwhile, Administrative/General Secretary of the YMCA Sarah Newland-Martin was extremely grateful for Burger King’s renewed commitment. She explained: “The YMCA is more than happy to again have Burger King on board with this swim meet. It is a development meet that enables youngsters under 12 years to develop their competitive edge, and to continue the tradition of giving them the opportunity to develop their skills to represent their club in particular, and Jamaica in general.”
Twenty-six schools and more than 300 swimmers have been registered so far to participate in the meet, which gets underway at 9:00 am at the National Stadium.
