Lion Heart capture Portland domino title
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Lion Heart defeated Eastern Strikers 300-251 to be crowned champions of the Dr Lynvale Bloomfield/Insports Portland Domino League 2013 at Talk of the Town Sunday evening.
“Throughout the season we have worked hard to achieve this. We are going full blast and we will keep this up from today 2013 until 2014 and beyond, and we will become the ruling champions in Portland for lifetime until we give it up,” promised Carlton Miller, captain of Lion Heart.
Lion Heart have been in the competition for years and have been beaten finalists, but Sunday marked the first occasion that they were winning the championship.
Organiser and Insports officer for Portland Sharon Harris was pleased with the competition and commended the champions. “This team has been involved in the competition over the years and is winning for the first time out of the 12 participating teams,” he said.
He also noted that the organisers will be selecting a parish team that will oppose a New York All-Stars team this weekend in Portland.
Dr Bloomfield was also pleased. “What we have seen here is heartening and demonstrate why we support this. The comradeship, discipline, sportsmanship, community participation underpin what we expected to see in a tournament like this, and we will continue to support this 100 per cent.”
The winning trophy and $50,000 were presented to the captain of the winning team, while Eastern Strikers got $25,000 for their efforts.
