Dante’s struggles for comedy series
A NEW reality/comedy series which debuted this week in the United States stars Andrew ‘Dante’ Hilmedo Jnr, an actor with Jamaican heritage.
The show, This Is Dante, airs on The BlockStarz.Tv Network. It follows the misadventures of a young actor from The Bronx, New York and his struggle to break into the competitive American entertainment industry.
In an email response to the Jamaica Observer, Hilmedo Jr says his family hails from New Hall, Manchester and Montego Bay.
Now 25, his last visit to Jamaica was at age 14. He elaborated on the web series which is produced by German-American company Block Starz Music.
“It will cover my failed attempts at a collaboration with my distant cousin (rapper) Slick Rick; my failed audition for the Notorious movie, and other missed opportunities, but also my successes like appearing in Universal Pictures’ Baby Mama starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and more,” he wrote.
According to Hilmedo Jnr, the show is not all humour. It gives viewers an opportunity to “also learn what someone in this field goes through and it’ll give you a better idea of how to approach a similar situation if you’re trying to make it as well.”
