‘Oh boy, here we go again’

NEWS of a plan by a church group to stage an anti-gay march Sunday ahead of next Tuesday’s hearing of an application challenging the constitutionality of the buggery law has triggered a frenzied debate among Jamaica Observer online readers. The church group, Prayer 2000, has called on churches islandwide to particiapte in what they describe as a ‘peaceful prayer march’. Here are some edited comments:

Richie L

Oh boy. Here we go again. I wish these people would do the same against violent crime. They are bullies, picking on the weak. Direct your “righteousness” against all perceived ills. Why just homosexuals? A bunch of cowards and hypocrites these people are.

CAScott Richie L

No one is calling for the legalisation of murder, theft or any other serious offence against our youth, but gays want their lifestyle to be accepted and adopted by all. If one dares to talk against it, he is tagged with derogatory names. How will our population grow if all are gay?

Mr Chin

When is the march against crime and corruption in our society going to happen? Gays don’t affect my life, corruption and crime do!

southy

You want to galvanise Jamaicans? Want to get the church united for a social issue? Just say, ‘Gay’!

Michael Smythe

Yawn.

PLBOGLE

Notice the commandment is to honour your father and mother, not honour your father and father, or your mother and mother, or your mother and her live-in lover or partner. We tamper with God’s order at our own peril. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the devil would try to undermine the family.

terobe Cyley

Hypocrites they can be, but which weak are they picking on? The burden of dealing with crime rests on the State… crime is wrong… who argues for it?

Marcus Garvey 1984

They did stand against crime and violence on more than one occasion. Have you ever stand for something you believed in? If not, then you are the one who is ‘weak’. Shut up and pledge allegiance to your cause!

cookiebulla

Of all the sexual sins mentioned — adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bestiality, incest, and rape –why is it that homosexuality should be normalised and accepted by society?

stress999

I’m waiting for the anti-murder march and the anti-corruption march. These are just a few of the pressing issues that need urgent attention and solution in JA right NOW.

Candice

It’s about time the churches step in and defend the word of God to its people. We simply cannot sit back and watch sin take over our nation.

DT

…If they want to stand up against gays then why are they not taking the same action against killers in Ja?

smaddy

Why do gay men, in particular, ALWAYS ALWAYS try to be seen? Why yuh waa act girly dan dem girls? Just asking.

Bevin

I am 100 per cent in support of this move. Sorry I am not in Jamaica to be part of this… I am going to show my pastor this article. We need marches like this in Canada… God Bless all who take part on Sunday.

Megu

Stand up Christian soldiers. Fight the good fight.

Pete

Hypocrites! I wonder

how many closeted gays/bisexuals/lesbians will be in this march! The obsession with gays is what’s frightening. Even within the church, mention gay, and everyone goes crazy …and no one is as passionate about anything else…it’s all gay! Whaddup with dat yo?

Megu

March around the walls of Gordon House until they yield to what is righteous and good. No sodomy around here.

Lance

With all that is going on in our country, this is what we are going to spend time on? “Christians” all know everyone won’t get to heaven and that everyone has to make their own choices, right or wrong. How about spending some time with this cross-section of society to learn more and concentrate on the next generation? I think we shoot ourselves in the foot when the narrative becomes a moral issue.

Blackstar

People shoud march against the church because they are a bunch of hypocrites

Sasha

Support the march 100%. We can’t compromise society’s morals for a few people’s WANTS.
