An ‘outsider’ looks in
Dear Editor,
Greetings to the wonderful people of Jamaica. I am an author from the USA and I recently visited your beautiful paradise. While there I donated copies of my two new children’s books to the library in Kingston. I hope the children will enjoy them.
I had a good time in Jamaica. However, I was so hurt when I saw all the suffering that a great number of the people have to endure. What really bothered me the most was how the two political parties fight each other. They seem so consumed with the hatred they have for each other. When will the people of Jamaica realise that they have a common enemy?
Jamaica’s motto is: ‘Out of many, one people’. It is now time for Jamaicans to live out that creed. With all the money that is made in the tourist areas, Jamaicans should live in better conditions.
While in Jamaica, I noticed that the children seemed to be going to school to get a good education. The hurtful thing is that I understand that when they graduate they will have to leave their homes to find a good job that doesn’t exist. This is done by design because the powers that be want the smart ones to leave — I think — with the submissive and weak left behind.
While the Jamaicans, including the poor, pay taxes, none of the money goes toward an effort to make Jamaica better. The two parties must unite and live out that noble creed.
