Bless up, YUTE
Dear Editor,
My life has never been easy; my family has always struggled financially. Growing up I lived with my mom alone. I did not finish my secondary education, mainly because my mom got very sick and I had to take care of her. It was difficult for me because I was practically alone — although for a short while I received help from one of her sisters.
Unfortunately, my mom eventually died and I had to bury her. Ever since then I truly felt alone. I became very antisocial. I pushed away everyone of my family members as well as my friends.
However, when my Youth Upliftment Through Employment (YUTE) mentor introduced me to the Build programme, somehow I began to feel a new sense of hope. Normally, when I start something, I would give up easily as I was afraid of failing or not being good at it. I now realise that I have changed, because I am more determined to see this programme to the end.
After starting this programme I’ve started to be a lot less antisocial; I’ve learnt to talk to people again, get to know them, to work with them and it has been a great experience.
The YUTE Build programme means a lot to me because it has helped me to have a much better outlook on life and my circumstances. I had the opportunity to learn something new and that was exciting for me. Thus far I’ve garnered an abundance of knowledge and I have a valuable way to utilise my time. Now I don’t have to stay at home wondering what to do with my life anymore. I’m grateful to this programme for that.
I am indebted to YUTE for this break and I wanted to thank them publicaly for what they have done.
