PSOJ wants OUR director appointed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ), Christopher Zacca, says the organisation is concerned about the failure to appoint a new director of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) since February.
Speaking at last night’s annual installation ceremony of the Rotary Club of St Andrew North, Zacca noted that it has been four months since the departure of Zia Mian as director general of the OUR.
“The Government has not indicated a timeline for when the position will be filled. Important decisions will soon need to be made regarding issues such as the much heralded 360 Megawatt Generating Plant, and I’m not sure how these decisions will be made without the input and guidance of a permanently appointed Director General,” the PSOJ head said.
“The point is that it is important to have a permanent person in place, so that there can be no inference of undue influence,” he added.
Deputy Director General, Maurice Charvis has been interim head of the OUR since February 10. The regulatory agency said then, that it was in the process of engaging a permanent director general. Charvis’ appointment is for a period of eight months.
The St Andrew North Rotary club installed engineer Glaister Ricketts, head of GAR Engineering, as its new president, succeeding Gregory Hugh Sam.
