KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dancehall artiste Buju Banton will return to court today to know the outcome of his juror misconduct case which may be instrumental in him getting a new trial for his drug-related conviction.

The artiste, whose name is Mark Myrie, will appear alongside juror Teri Wright who is accused of violating judge’s orders by doing Internet research on the Pinkerton Law that was used to convict the artiste.

Wright reportedly admitted in an earlier court sitting that she used a laptop computer to research aspects of the law used in Myrie’s drug trafficking case.

When asked to present the laptop hard drive for examination by a forensic expert hired by Buju, it was revealed that Wright submitted the wrong drive, and also that she had served on several juries before, a fact the artiste’s lawyer said would have disqualified her from selection had they known.

A motion was subsequently filed by Buju’s team to have the judge rule that Wright had in fact violated his orders.

Should that ruling be made today, Buju may get a new trial after being found guilty on drug-related charges for which he is serving 10 years in a Florida, US jail.

Buju was arrested at his home in South Florida in December 2009 after US Drug Enforcement Agents arrested two men as they attempted to purchase a large quantity of cocaine from undercover police.
