Foote puts hands on Golf Classic trophy

DR Andre Foote with 41 points overcame an over-subscribed field of 96 golfers to be named the overall winner of the Columbus Business Solutions/AMCHAM Golf Classic on Sunday at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.

“I feel very good cause I have been playing with my club, the Buccaneer Golf Club, and I want to dedicate this victory to them… it was very good out there. I putted well and I am glad I was victorious,” said Foote, who won for himself two airline tickets courtesy of Jet Blue from Kingston to New York.

Marvin Mendes with 40 points won the Men’s Under-50 category and he walked away with a weekend for two at Secrets Resort in Montego Bay. Second and third went to Larry Lodengai and Bert Tomlinson with 39 and 38 points, respectively.

In the Men’s Over-50 category, Dr Soe Win won with 40 points, and for his efforts, he received a weekend for two at Half Moon Resort. Chris Cruz, 39, came second with Vikram Dhiman, 37 points, in third place.

Tiana Cruz copped the Ladies trophy with 37 points with a better back nine, and she got a weekend for two courtesy of Couples, Tower Isle. Kai Harris, 37, was second and Rowena Coe, 32, copped third. Last year’s overall winner Spanish Ambassador Celsa Nuno, 32, came in fourth.

Scientific Medical Supplies won the Corporate category with team members Dr Soe Win, Tony Wong, Howard Lau and Khaleel Azan.

The final category — the Juniors — went to Jordan Lowe.

Dr Karl Bruce, 76, won the prize for the best gross score and claimed a weekend for two at Jewels.

David Mais, the tournament director, said the tournament was very successful based on the high number of entries. “The managers at Caymanas has done a great job preparing the golf course and it showed in the excellent results,” he said.
