Traffic danger in ‘Three Miles’
Dear Editor,
During morning peak-hour traffic there is exteme traffic congestion by the Portia Simpson Miller Square, also known as Three Miles and drivers are at an increased risk of a collision.
It is very dangerous after a motorist crosses the intersection of Hagley Park and Spanish Town Roads heading towards downtown. Once motorists get across the traffic light, they are obstructed by the Waterhouse and Seaview Gardens buses.
The bus stops there should be moved a few metres down so the buses can properly make their stops and passengers may disembark carefully without impeding the flow of motorists.
The “barricades” in the road create a fatal funnel. Motorist coming from the Spanish Town Road or turning from Marcus Garvey Drive are forced to switch from double to single lane abruptly because of the passenger buses parked in this funnel.
Should the bus stop be relocated, and buses park outside of this problematic funnel, I think it will decrease congestion and reduce the chance of a motor vehicle crash occurring in that area.
