Hurdler Parchment on the mend
MONTEGO BAY, St James — It is hoped that Hansle Parchment, the 110m hurdles National Record holder, will be able to get back to doing “basic” training next week, three weeks after injuring his left ankle while preparing for the event at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior Trials at the National Stadium.
Fitz Coleman, Parchment’s coach, told the Jamaica Observer yesterday the athlete was “feeling much better” and “the limp is not as visible anymore”.
In the meantime, Coleman said Parchment who ran a personal best 13.05 seconds to win the event at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon last month, paring .07 seconds off his previous best 13.12 seconds set in London at the Olympic Games last year when he won a historic bronze medal for Jamaica, will “hopefully be back in training next week”.
However, if there are any setbacks or he does not progress at the rate where he should be training by next week, Coleman said they would look into additional medical treatments.
Parchment injured his ankle on the third evening of the four-day championships when he and other hurdlers were warming up for the final in poor lighting conditions at the warm-up track, he stepped on a hurdle and twisted his ankle.
He was rushed to the University Hospital where an X-ray showed no serious damage but confirmed a serious sprain.
