J’cans continue to make waves at swimming champs
The Jamaican Swim Team continued to make waves at the Central American and Caribbean Age Group Swimming Championships (CCCAN) in San Josem Costa Rica.
The Jamaicans added three medals after Annabella Lyn, Sidrell Williams and Sean-Douglas Gooden won bronze on day two of competition.
Lyn got things rolling with a “gutsy” performance in the 11-12 Girls’ 400 metre freestyle in a time of 4:55.19, Williams then followed up with a sensational swim in the Boys’ 15-17 100 metre butterfly with a spectacular finish with a personal best time of 57.87 seconds.
Gooden, competing in his first overseas international meet for Jamaica, swam a well-timed race in the Boys 11-12 100 metre breaststroke to give Jamaica their third bronze medal of the evening.
Jamaica’s other finalists on day two were Jesse Marsh, who swam a personal best time in the Boys’ 11-12 400-metre freestyle of 4:47.94 (improving on his preliminary personal best of 4:50.34) to place seventh.
Anjuii Barrett, competing in her second final of the competition after her bronze in the 50m freestyle also placed seventh in the 11-12 Girls 100-metre breaststroke.
Jamaica’s coach Syreeta Biggs was very pleased with Jamaica’s performances on day day.
“The swimmers have really stepped up with all of our swimmers making finals and achieving personal best times,” said Biggs.
