MELBOURNE CC and Westmoreland CA will contest the final of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) all-island limited-overs competition at the Noranda Bauxite ground in Discovery Bay, St Ann tomorrow.

Melbourne, this season’s number one 50-overs team in the Corporate Area, easily brushed aside a Xavier Marshall-inspired St Ann outfit by 109 runs in last weekend’s semi-final at Melbourne’s Derrymore Road base.

Scores: Melbourne 264 (49.3 overs); St Ann 155 (37.4 overs)

The other semi-final between Westmoreland and domestic powerhouses Manchester CA, scheduled for the Manchester High cricket ground, was called off without a ball being bowled due to bad weather.

Westmoreland booked their final spot on the basis of having more outright wins than Manchester throughout the preliminary round.

In the match at Melbourne, the hosts batted first and posted a challenging 264 all out, courtesy of half-centuries from former youth opener Jon Ross Campbell (71) and out-of-favour West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh (58).

Duran Whyte was St Ann’s top wicket taker with 4-40. Kemar Allen, who snatched 3-34, and Damar Davis with 2-35, supported Whyte’s effort.

In reply, Marshall, the side-lined West Indies batsman, hammered a remarkable 104 in his team’s 155 all out inside 38 overs.

Off-spinning all-rounder Yannick Elliott kept up his outstanding bowling form since suffering a stroke in April by snaring 4-26 to undermine St Ann’s run chase.

The left-arm orthodox slow-bowling pair of Christopher Lamont and West Indies ‘A’ stand-out Nikita Miller chipped in with 3-41 and 2-18, respectively.
