Red Hills Road residents protest double police killing
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Residents in sections of Red Hills Road in St Andrew are tense following the early morning fatal shooting of two brothers by police on Karl Samuda Way.
The brothers have been identified as Sayoga and Gary Cooke.
Irate residents blocked the road from as early as 2:00 am, after it was discovered that the men were killed by police officers.
The protestors gathered at the communities known as Common and Park Lane to vent their anger at what they described as a contract killing by police.
The residents said that both men were in a motor vehicle when they were stopped by members of a police patrol. the residents reported hearing gunshots and it was discovered that the brothers were hit.
They were taken to hospital and were pronounced dead.
A police contingent has cleared the fiery road blocks which were erected by the residents. The police have not yet released an official statement on the matter.
