Rondell keeps it positive
THOUGH he is a gospel artiste, singer Rondell Positive says his message transcends religion. He has hit the right note with a group that holds entirely different views from his Christian faith.
More Than a Conqueror and Mi Nah, songs from his 2012 debut album, Sticks Nor Stones: Reggae Worship, has found an audience among Rastafarians.
“I’ve been ministering to a lot of Rastafarians, and the tracks have received good feedback after being played on Mutabaruka’s show (The Cutting Edge) on Irie FM,” he said.
Mutabaruka, one of Jamaica’s leading social commentators, is a Rastafarian. He has been critical of the Christian faith over the years.
Recently, Rondell Positive filmed a video for More Than A Conqueror, which he says is a testament to his conversion to Christianity 11 years ago.
A Portland native, Positive was born Rondell Allen. Previously, he was known as sound system selector DJ Slaughter.
His gospel career came full circle last year with Sticks Nor Stones: Reggae Worship, which also contains the songs Overcomer, Your Will Be Done and Take My Breath Away.
Sticks Nor Stones is a joint production between Positive’s Island Worship label and fellow gospel singer Jermaine Edwards’ Healthy Music.
