INTERNATIONAL professional services firm, Deloitte has pulled its name from the partnership that operates in Jamaica.

The firm, which is one of the Big Four globally for the size of its revenue, has opted instead to use an independent correspondent firm locally, as of September 1.

Meanwhile, a deal where a number of partners and a portion of staff from Deloitte Jamaica will join Ernst and Young (EY) is close, while some of the partners will join to form the company that will service Deloitte’s international customers in Jamaica.

Details of the deals are yet to be disclosed, but the move by Ernst and Young brings it within arms reach of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and KPMG, the number one and two players in Jamaica.

Globally, Deloitte was last reported to be neck and neck with PwC, in terms of revenue, followed by EY, then KPMG.

The move by Deloitte International ends a more than 50-year run by the local operations as a member firm.

In Jamaica, Deloitte was founded as Heron & Thorburn in 1949 and became a member firm of Touche Ross International in 1960, before eventually taking the Deloitte name in 1991 following international mergers and rebranding.
