Bridal Make-up: Bold & Alluring Cat Eyes

Get the Look:

For many women, their wedding day is likely to be the most special day of their lives. Naturally, they’ll want to look and feel their best. The dress is ready and the hairstylist knows what style will suit them. It’s now time to choose make-up and they’re having a little trouble deciding what look to wear while the cameras cement the moment in history. One thing is for certain: A lasting impression must be left, and so their faces must be flawless.

The best bridal make-up is often subtle, so go with neutrals for a more minimalist look or choose one focal point — be it the lips, the eyes, or the cheekbones — and make it pop. If you’re looking for a mixture of subtle and dramatic, one way to settle in the middle is with bold and alluring cat eyes.

Defining eyes with jet black, winged liner and lush lashes is a classic look for any formal affair, and exudes pure glamour for a wedding in particular. It’s a simple, clean, fresh look, with a nod to the golden era of Hollywood.

Whether thin, thick, aggressive, or sultry, there are tons of ways to wear the cat eye. Using products from M.A.C’s new Antonio Lopez collection — which features bold eye and lip pallets inspired by the legendary fashion illustrator’s vibrant energy and love for colour — we’ll show you how to get the look in six easy steps.

STEPS:

1 Moisturise your skin: Before you apply make-up on your big day, it’s important that you have a smooth, refreshed foundation to work on. That’s where hydration comes in. In addition to drinking at least eight cups of water a day, help your skin lock in its natural moisturiser by applying a moisturising product day and night.

2 Find your bridal style: Depending on your style you may choose to accentuate your cat eyes by applying either a dramatic shade of eyeshadow — like those available in the M.A.C Antonio Lopez Violet or Teal Eyeshadow Palettes — before drawing your “wings”, or simply go for a more nude look by applying a sheer colour eyeshadow.

3 Draw your ‘wings’: Look at yourself straight on in the mirror. Where your eyebrows end should be the direction your liner goes. Now tilt your chin upwards and look back down at the mirror with your eyes. This makes the angle easier to see when achieving this look on your own. Take your felt-tip liner and start at the outside corner of your eye. Draw a “flick” up toward the end of your eyebrow. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Repeat on the other eye.

4 Make them symmetrical: This is the time to make sure your “wings” are symmetrical with one another. Take the Q-tip, and perfect your line by removing any harsh marks or mistakes.

5 Apply eyeliner: Once you have the angle of your wing, draw on your eyeliner like you normally would and connect it to your “flick”. Here you can control how thick or thin you want your line.

6 Curl your lashes: For a wide-eyed appearance, finish your cat eyes off with a great dark mascara like the M.A.C In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash mascara. You should now have a vibrant cat-eye effect and are officially ready to take that walk up the aisle!TIPS:

• For a smoother finish, use a felt-tip black liquid liner like the M.A.C Penultimate Eye Liner.

• A pointed cotton swab — Precision Q-tips work perfectly for erasing harsh marks or mistakes. You can also use a regular Q-tip, but dampen it first to smooth it down.

• For extra colour, you can also add one coat of a shimmery white-based eyeshadow — like those available in the M.A.C Antonio Lopez Creative Copper Eyeshadow Palette which offers a choice of shades including a pale warm beige with a soft frost finish, a mid-tone frosty peach-pink gold, a mid-tone coral pink with a satin finish, or a sparkling true gold — before finishing with a nude or clear shade of lipstick.
