Scotia ‘B’ win KO, but Business House League titles on line today

Scotiabank ‘B’ won the Robert Douet Memorial Knockout Trophy when they clipped their ‘A’ team 1-0 in the final of the 2013 Business House Five-A-Side competition on Thursday night at the NWC playing field in Mona.

Scotiabank ‘B’, beaten finalist in the competition last year, were the better team throughout the game, as they dominated from the first whistle. Goalkeeper Jabari Wallace was the saviour for the ‘A’ team as he repeatedly denied Stefan Bartley, Anthony Greenland, Akeeli Martin, Ranike Anderson and Ramoun Reid from scoring by using all parts of his body.

The winning goal was scored with two minutes remaining in the match when Greenland shot powerfully past the diving Jabari Wallace.

Scotiabank ‘B’ pocketed $40,000 for their victory, while the ‘A’ team received $20,000.

The competition will come to an end today with the playing of the Division One and Division Two league finals at the same venue. In the Division Two final at 2:30 pm, first-time entrant Spanish Grain Store ‘B’ will play Kingston Bookshop.

The Marcel Gayle-coached Spanish Grain Store team is expected to win their first title with goalkeeper Juvel Plunkett, Red Stripe Premier League players Juvaunie Benjamin and Kemar Flemmings, along with Jermaine Russell, Michael Lutas, Demetrio Billet, and Oniel Fairweather leading the way for victory.

Coach Steadman Fuller will turn to Raybert Clarke, Kemar Woodley, Barrington Pryce, Wayne Christie, Marvin Marshalleck, Donovan McCurdy, Joel Selvin and Swayne Fuller to win their second trophy for the 2013 season. They won the pre-season one-day rally in July. The winner will receive $40,000 and the runner-up $20,000.

In the Division One final at 4:00 pm, former champions Peak Bottling Company and Scotiabank ‘A’ will meet. Peak Bottling are favoured to take their second Division One title, as they have defeated the Scotiabank teams (both ‘A’ and ‘B’) this season in the preliminary round and they prevented the league finals from being an all Scotia affair, by clipping the ‘B’ team 2-1 in the semi-final last week.

Coach Emelio Clarke will be looking to Dwayne Colley, Jermaine Savage, Dujhon Murphy, David Smith, Troyland Williams, Kirk Fletcher, Fabian Cooke and Andrew Morrison for victory.

Coach Neville Bell will be turning inspirational goalkeeper Jabari Wallace, who prevented defending champion Spanish Grain Store ‘A’ from scoring in their semi-final match-up last week, premier league players Damion Gordon and Raymond Williamson, Donovan Hibbert, Kemar Cummings, Rashane Garcia, Marlon Henry, Craig Richards, Richard West and Norwayne Knight to win their fifth title.

The winner walks away with $60,000, and runner up $30,000. The closing ceremony will follow at 5:30 pm. Guest speaker is Ambassador Stewart Stevenson.

Goalscorer Anthony Greenland (trophy in hand) and his Scotiabank ‘B’ teammates pose with the 2013 Robert Douet Memorial Knockout Trophy which they won after defeating their ‘A’ Team 1-0 at the NWC playing field, Mona, on Thursday.
