TORONTO, Canada (CMC) — With less than two years to the staging of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, a leading Caribbean sport administrator has given the thumbs up on the progress made by the organisers.

Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), expressed his satisfaction on the work being done as sport administrators from the region meet in the host city for the General Assembly of the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO).

“Without doubt yes, they have done very well in their early preparations and I’m part of the Coordination Commission as well as the chair of the Technical Commission for PASO and we have been reviewing the work they have been doing and we are extremely satisfied with the progress so far,” said Fennell.

“But having said that, we have a lot of work to do still and we are just short of two years for the games and we’re now getting into the ‘nitty-gritty’ and we have to ensure that the work continues apace, but what has been done so far is very satisfactory.”

More than 300 delegates, representing 41 countries, are meeting in Toronto for the General Assembly of PASO.

The highlight of the four-day meeting which ended on Friday was the election and announcement of Lima in Peru as the host city for the 2019 Pan Am Games.

Lima was chosen over other South American cities of La Punta, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; and Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela.
