PORT ANTONIO, Portland — King Fisher 11 topped the 50th Port Antonio Blue Marlin Tournament, walking away with the Appleton VX Trophy for tagging and releasing four marlins over the four days of fishing.

King Fisher 11 headed out No Problem, who also tagged and released four, but after King Fisher 11.

Trish Magnus (Justeina) was the top female angler and Gordon Shirley (U Sea Mi) top male angler for the Sterling Management and Phillip Matalon Trophy, respectively. Dermoth Bingham walked away with the Red Stripe Beer Trophy for the heaviest marlin landed, with his 380lbs catch on Thursday.

Justeina won the small boats most marlins for three tagged and released.

In the fours days King Fisher 11; No Problem and U Sea Mi (3); Bye Pass, Feeva, Fair Prospect, Daddy’s Dream, Justeina, La Nadine, Persistence and Safe Passage, two each, as Gabby Millian, Head First, Too Contagious, Razz Matazz, Anticipation and Reel MaCoy had one each.

Overall 33 marlins were tagged and released, with two landed.

Val Chung of champion King Fisher 11, was an elated man. “We have won the tournament a number of times before, but this is special on the 50th anniversary and we have the record for the tournament, eight marlins.

“The fishing this year was good and challenging and we tagged and released on the first day early and on every fishing day. On the fourth day we fought hard with one, but we lost it as we would have had five or landed one, but that is how the fishing goes.

“The weather was good. We will be back and the fishing was great with my partner Andy. My dream is to win the tournament with a 20-foot boat or dingy,” Val concluded.
