Intoxicating mix of fashion, partying, golf for MoBay

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — A star-studded roster of golfers are getting ready to tee off for the annual OCEAN Style Celebrity Golf Invitational.

On that roster is repeat OCEAN Style celebrity golfer, comedian and actor Anthony Anderson. This will be Anderson’s third visit for the OCEAN Style FashionShowcase Weekend — a unique blend of fashion shows, parties and golf in Jamaica’s tourism capital, Montego Bay.

The annual tournament comprises part of the OCEAN Style FashionShowcase Weekend in Montego Bay.

This year the tournament will be held on Saturday, November 2, on the famed greens of the Tryall Club — voted one of the best golf courses in the world.

“The OCEAN Style Golf Invitational is a premier event that has grown year after year and is an excellent fit for us. Participants will also have the rare opportunity to play on two new greens and to relax and enjoy the amenities of the refurbished Tryall Club House that will be reopened specially for this event,” said Tryall Club’s director of golf, Ewan Peebles.

Dubbed one of the most coveted, challenging and unique golf tournaments of the year, golfers also have the opportunity to win US$1 million — the richest Hole in One prize offered in the region.

The event was won last year by Team Appleton comprised of NFL Superbowl winner Verron Haynes, Tanisa Samuel, Damien Grant and Deryk Meany.

According to OCEAN Style’s Editor-in-Chief Douglas Gordon, “Tryall is a spectacular golf course.”

“I have no doubt it will offer the players lots of challenge, but we’re also going to inject tons of fun with activities from mixologists to models at various holes all through the tournament,” he said.

The OCEAN Style Celebrity Golf Invitational is open to both individuals and teams at a cost of US$150 for individuals and US$900 for corporate teams.

Past celebrity golfers include Olympic gold medallist Donovan Bailey, actor Rockman Dunbar, Manchester United’s Andy Cole, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Verron Haynes, world heavyweight boxing Champion Lennox Lewis and West Indies cricketers Desmond Haynes, Courtney Walsh and Jeffrey Dujon.

Proceeds from the OCEAN Style Celebrity Golf Invitational will go toward the construction of a library at the Barrett Town All-Age School in Montego Bay.
