Belinda Makes The Cut
FOR hassle-free, on-the-go hair, National Commercial Bank’s Group Corporate Communications Manager Belinda Williams wears extensions. For over 12 years she’s sported a fabulous shoulder-length style, but recently decided it was time for a change.
The fabella debuted a side-swept, asymmetrical crop, at PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Leighton McKnight’s post-National Honours and Awards ceremony celebration at Ham Stables on Monday last, that had us completely smitten.
“It’s a pretty drastic change, really, but I feel like I’m at the stage in my life personally and professionally where I needed that kind of change,” Williams revealed to Under the Dryer.
It was a move she had been contemplating for quite some time, so when she called her stylist Yanique Grant —
who has been styling her hair for just over two years — the two carefully considered their options before settling on the gorgeous layered cut.
“We had been toying with the idea of switching things up for a while and when I suggested going short she was probably more nervous about it than I was, because it involved shaving the back of my natural hair. But hair grows back, right?” said Williams.
With the style selected, all that was left was going through with it. This part, she confessed, was not planned.
“I had a really bad day at work one day, and you know how we women have certain things that act as therapy for us. It’s either you’re going to go get your nails and your hair done, or you’re gonna go do some shopping, and I can’t shop right now, so I decided to go for the chop, and it worked!” she said.
We couldn’t agree more, the look is definitely an upgrade, and for ladies currently on the fence about making the cut themselves, Williams guarantees you won’t regret it.
“I’m so glad I did it! I do get mixed reactions from people, but most men love it, and my other short hair divas are loving
it, as well; they’ve been showering me with compliments, asking why I never thought of it before. I’ve also been told it shaves a couple of years off my face,” said Williams.
The two-hour process
involved Grant separating her client’s hair into different sections, isolating the back and shaving it, and adding relaxer for a smoother look.
She then sewed in multi-coloured extensions in an asymmetrical fashion at the
sides and in a circular fashion at the front, using a razor comb to trim and layer the hair into the desired style.
“The best part of it all is
that I spend less time getting ready in the mornings, and less time under the dryer,” said a beaming Belinda.
We’re absolutely loving Belinda’s new ‘do, how
about you?
