A New Day for McAnuff
ROOTS singer Winston McAnuff takes a new route on A New Day, which is scheduled to be released today.
He collaborates with French musician Fixi on the set, which will be distributed by Chapter Two Records, an independent company based in Paris.
It also bears the seal of Wagram, McAnuff’s label.
“This album is a mix of world music, Afro beat, reggae, samba, maloya and flamenco,” McAnuff said.
A four-song EP previewing songs from the eclectic set was released in April by Chapter Two Records. It includes Garden of Love, which topped the World Music chart in Germany and France.
A New Day is the follow-up to 2011’s well-received A Bang, which heard McAnuff working with the Baz Baz Orchestra.
That album did well in France, where McAnuff has enjoyed a career renaissance in the last decade.
The Manchester-born vocalist first emerged during the roots-reggae craze of the 1970s. He wrote the song Malcolm X for Dennis Brown.
McAnuff’s career suffered
a lull in the 1990s until he
was rediscovered by French company Makasounds, which helped introduce him to a new audience in Europe
with albums like A Drop and Paris Rocking.
Winston McAnuff was scheduled to perform yesterday at the WOMEX conference in Cardiff, Wales.
