J’can kickboxer Dussard wins silver in Cyprus
NICOSIA, Cyprus (CMC) — Jamaica’s Nicholas Dussard recovered to win a silver medal at the International Sports Kickboxing Association (ISKA) World Championships in North Cyprus on Thursday.
The Jamaican fighter was able to put aside the disappointment of last week’s second-round loss at the International Taekwon-Do Federation World Champs and fight in a heavier weight category.
He moved up from lightweight to the minus-67 kilos division, giving away four kilos to bigger and stronger rivals.
“Nick showed real guts and fire to come from behind and win that bout,” said Jason McKay, ISKA president.
“This just goes to show what could have happened in Benidorm, at the ITF, had Julio Carlos not avoided him for the entire match after scoring two early points,” he added.
Jamaica’s two other representatives in Cyprus, Danielle Chang and Kevin Brown, were yet to take the mat.
