Benjah scores amid the ‘haze’
GRAMMY-NOMINATED and Dove Award winner Benjah debuts at number three on the Billboard Reggae Album chart with Haze and Reflections: Vanity Fare: Remixed.
It is the American singer’s third album. Benjah is no stranger to Billboard, having previously charted on gospel artiste Lecrae’s album, Rehab, which reached number 15 on the Billboard Top 200 and number one on its Christian chart.
He also produced and featured on Blacklight by Tedashii, which also made the Billboard Top 200 and topped the Christian chart.
Benjah was an original member of Christian outfit Group 1 Crew. He has worked with many artistes including neo-soul singer Angie Stone.
He pursued music full-time after giving up a football scholarship. During his freshman year in college, he was critically injured in a car accident that resulted in the death of his driver.
The Orlando, Florida resident says reggae, hip hop and R&B have shaped his sound.
His first solo album was entitled Filtered, which was followed by a duets set titled Introducing: Lov’d Ones with Dillavou.
The latter had a guest spot by Christian reggae artiste Dominic Balli. It reached number two on the ITunes Reggae chart.
