Princess popstar shines in ‘Pick-3’ race
IF there were doubts, erase them. If there were concerns, throw them out. If there was unease, settle down. Princess Popstar is all that and substantially more.
The Adore The Gold-Doc’s Paladin bay filly turned the feature race at Caymanas Park, the Pick-3 Super Challenge trophy over seven furlongs, into a procession winning by 10 expanding lengths in a stakes record time of 1:25.1 minutes. Her splits were 24.0 x 47.3 x 1:11.3 minutes.
With trainer Philip Feanny calling on the services of his trusted comrade Winston Griffiths, The Princess waited as stable companion Bubbling Angeline went to the lead with Queen Paula and Insane Bolt behind. When Griffiths asked her to move leaving the three-furlong marker, the Pick-3 trophy was given its final bluster in preparation for presentation to owners 2 Penyu.
Insane Bolt overtook Bubbling Angeline for second and a sizeable chunk of the purse.
In the race for the jockeys’ championship, man on the throne Dane Neslon made a decisive move over his main rival Omar Walker, when he rode four winners to move three wins ahead of the challenger. Both started the day on 96 wins each, but after Nelson’s four-timer, it is now left to Walker to come up with the goods over the seven race days left in the year.
Nelson’s winners were Hawkeye and Sheer Madness and Edison for trainer Richard Azan and Lesterae for Stephen Todd. Walker rode one winner on the day, Reign Over All. Edison was Nelson’s 100th winner for the season.
Jockey Shane Ellis reached a personal milestone when he rode his 700th winner of his outstanding career on Mr Traditionalist.
