Defending champions Wolmer’s Boys and Kingston College sewed up the ISSA/Wata Under-16 and Under-14 Schoolboy football titles, respectively, on Tuesday.

A Khori Bennett hat-trick ensured Wolmer’s silenced Jamaica College 4-0 in the featured game of a double-header at Constant Spring.

Earlier, Kingston College beat St George’s College 4-3 on penalties, after regulation and extra time ended 0-0 in the Under-14 competition.

Bennett, brought down from Wolmer’s Manning Cup team, displayed superb shooting skills when he pounced in the fifth minute. He slammed in his second from the 18-yard box in the 21st minute to stun JC, who days before indicated they would be following in the footsteps of their seniors, the Manning Cup champions.

A Rivaldo English header in the 31st minute put Wolmer’s up 3-0, as the boys from Old Hope Road fought on but their shots went high and wide of the mark.

Reduced to 10 men in the second half, JC only paved the way for Bennett to fittingly seal the issue in the 80th minute and the Michael Peart-guided boys realised that it was all over.

“Bennett is a solid player and he got the job done for us,” said Wolmer’s coach, Alex Thomas.

“This victory means a lot, the sky is the limit. We have kept them in a programme (and) coach (Ludlow) Bernard is the man behind all of this going on at Wolmer’s Boys.

“The work doesn’t stop here today, it is a long road ahead,” added a pleased Thomas.

He added:”Our game plan was to go at JC, see what they have. We know their wing backs were very weak and we went at them and that gave us the three early goals. We played disciplined, organised football.”

Jamaica college coach Peart took issue with the officiating, before admitting that his defensive unit was weak.

In the Under-14, KC ended the season unbeaten with their coach Raymond Watson describing the early rounds as “smooth sailing”.

“We were confident going into the final, as from the moment we started we were saying ‘hey this is a championship team’,” Watson added.

After regulation time with the score 0-0, Watson said he told his boys to “believe in themselves” as they were “rushing the game”.

“Once it went into penalties, I was supremely confident. We put on two persons directly to kick penalties, especially with two minutes to go,” noted Watson.
