20 years of Strictly The Best
STRICTLY The Best, the influential VP Records compilation, celebrates its 20th year on the market come December 17.
The milestone is will be marked by the release on that date of a double compact disc, Vol 48 and Vol 49, which contains some of the biggest hit songs of 2013.
Vol 48 is a lovers rock collection featuring songs by Tessanne Chin, who has been a sensation on this season of the NBC talent show, The Voice.
Her Incredible Love makes the cut, so does Better Tomorrow by Etana, Morgan Heritage’s Here Come The Kings and Easy To Love from Maxi Priest.
Vol 48 also includes Angola, the roots anthem from singer Jah Boukes.
Vol 49 represents the hardcore side of dancehall, with songs such as Bedroom Bully by Busy Signal, Mavado’s Million Dollar Man and Fruit Juice, a collaboration between Snoop Lion and Mr Vegas.
Strictly The Best and Reggae Gold (another popular VP compilation) helped introduce dancehall music to the American mainstream during the 1990s.
Hit songs by Beenie Man (Who Am I) and Sean Paul (Gimmie the Light) were on Strictly The Best before taking off on the Billboard pop charts.
The compilation has consistently made the Billboard Reggae Album chart.
