MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — William Knibb Memorial’s Under-19 and Cornwall College’s Under-16 teams confirmed their semi-final places in the ISSA/KFC Western Conference High School basketball competition after contrasting wins on Thursday.

Led by a combined 48 points from Shavaughn Reid and Daniel Henry, William Knibb hammered neighbours Holland High 82-53 to improve to nine points from five games in the Under-19 section and join defending champions Muschett High in the last four.

Cornwall College came from behind in the final quarter at the Montego Bay Cricket Club to beat St James High 43-38 and move to the top of the Under-16 standings with nine points from five games, one more than Muschett and Spot Valley ,with St James still in with a shot at the semi-finals on seven points with a game to be played.

On Thursday at Martha Brae, despite arguably their best game of this season, last season’s runners-up Holland High were no match for the high-scoring William Knibb team that lead 18-10, 39-22 and 60-39 at the intervals.

Reid led the scoring with 26 points and had seven assists, while Henry scored 22 points, six rebounds and 14 assists as Kenrick Lindo had a double-double 18 points and 10 rebounds for Holland High.

Holland, meanwhile, won their first Under-16 game, beating William Knibb 28-19 coming from behind with Levaughn Johnson scoring 10 points.

Holland trailed 2-4 and 4-15 after the first two breaks, but then outscored William Knibb 24-4 in the second half.

At the Cricket Club, Cornwall College prevailed in a high-scoring fourth quarter to win their third straight game and were helped greatly by two timely three pointers from Alwayde Thompson who finished with 12 points.

Meanwhile, St James forfeited their Under-19 game to Cornwall College.
