KINGSTON, Jamaica — Manchester City moved to the top of the English Premier League after defeating Newcastle 2-0 on Sunday.Results for Saturday January 11

Newcastle had a goal that would have given them the equaliser controversially disallowed after Edin Dzeko hit the back of the net in the eighth minute to give City the lead.

City returned in the 90th minute through Negredo to seal the victory.

But City’s stay at the top could however be short-lived if Arsenal beat Aston Villa on Monday.

Also on Sunday Liverpool got the better of Stoke 5-3 after a double from Luis Suarez.

Liverpool took a 2-0 lead in the first half following an own goal from Ryan Shaw and a strike from Suarez. After the break Stoke hit back early through Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam to draw level.

But Steven Gerrard made it 3-2 from the spot in the 51st and Suarez fired in his second in the 71st to make it 4-2 before Jon Walters’ strike brought Stoke closer, but Daniel Sturridge sealed the win late on.
