OMAR WALKERRACE HORSE JOCKEY

What they say – Omar Walker

FORMER CHAMPION JOCKEY

When did you start your career as a jockey?

I started my career as a jockey in July 2006.

Which horse was your first winner?

I remember the horse and the day very well. My first winner was Supernatural for trainer Wayne DaCosta over the five straight course. It is a day, I will always remember.

Which horse is your longest odds winner?

My longest odds winner is Southern Dancer at 35-1 for trainer Victor Williams.

Which horse is the best horse you have ridden?

The best horse I have ridden is Missmyrtleboyrichie. When he was running at his (best), Missmyrtleboyrichie was really something else. I liked his gallop and the way he went about training. He really had a lot of potential but he was plagued by soundness problem. He was never able to show racing fans his true ability because of unsoundness.

Which horse is the best horse you have seen raced at Caymanas Park?

I would say the classy Mark My Word (deceased). He was a very powerful and impressive colt whom I had the privilege of riding, and he showed his class by winning the Triple Crown and other big races, such as the Superstakes three times. A wonderful and good horse.

Who has influenced your career the most?

My father has influenced my career the most. He was the only one there for me, as no one else was there to push me when the times were rough, and sometimes they were very rough. To this day my father is always there for me.
