BUNNY Rugs, lead vocalist of Third World, was recently released from the Intensive Care Unit of a Florida hospital.

A statement from the band’s publicist, Heather Cameron, confirmed his hospitalisation but did not state the extent of Rugs’ illness.

“We can report that he is comfortable and anxious to come back home to Jamaica for some good food and rest. Rugs sends his love and we ask you to send your prayers,” said band leader and guitarist Stephen ‘Cat’ Coore.

Failing health forced Rugs out of several Third World dates last year when the band celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Rugs (given name William Clarke) had recorded as a solo artiste for producer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry before joining Third World in 1976.

Along with founding members Coore and keyboardist Ibo Cooper, drummer Willie Stewart, percussionist Irvin ‘Carrot’ Jarrett and bass player Richie Daley, Rugs was part of the classic Third World lineup that recorded hit songs like Now That we Found Love and Try Jah
