Young CEO wins Konshens’ contest

JADAN Johnson, 15-year-old Munro College student, is the winner of Konshens’s ‘Konz876 Young Boss’ social media competition.

The contest — opened to fans on social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook — asked fans to highlight their academic achievements and talents.

“Winning the Young Boss competition was a true honour. But what was honourable was the fact that Konshens used an ideal opportunity to reach out to the youths of Jamaica. It shows that he believes in the youth and understands that age is no limit to success,” said Johnson.

Johnson is founder and CEO of online channel Vybz TV Jamaica and the Vybz Media Group, which was launched in 2009. He has a staff of 12.

“At a young age, I developed a strong interest and passion for entertainment media. I am an optimist, I truly think that despite the thorns, the rose is one of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. I use this as a motivation that despite financial circumstances, age, and any other challenges we face, that there is no limit to achieving great things,” said Johnson.

He revealled how the idea came about.

“While watching an episode of Nickelodeon’s I-Carly, I was motivated to start my very own online ‘TV’ channel and that how the idea of Vybz TV was born,” Johnson said.

A former student of the Greater Portmore Primary school in St Catherine, Johnson said he had always had a keen interest in the entertainment industry.

“I am always very involved in extra-curricular activities, with a keen interest in the music industry. I have led my school to victory in several environmental, drama, speech and musical competitions. I was also head boy at Greater Portmore Primary,”

he said.

Johnson won three tickets to Youth View Awards held at the National Indoor Sports Centre last weekend. He also won seven pairs of Konz876 sneakers which were presented

at the awards.

According to Konshens, the competition was aimed at highlighting the positive things that are happening with the youth.

“After all the videos in circulation about porn and schoolchildren, I thought I needed to remind people that there was still

positive stuff happening with our youth. Unfortunately, good news is almost never a viral hit though,” said Konshens.

Dancehall artiste Konshens (given name Garfield Spence), who along with Sean Paul is scheduled to appear on the Arension Hall show on CBS on February 13, is known for songs, including Winner, Do Sum’n and The Realest Song.
