MUNRO, St Elizabeth — Two new meet records were set on Tuesday’s pre lunch session of the County of Cornwall Athletics Association (COCAA) Gator/Hanover Co-Operative Credit Union boys’ Western Championships qualifiers underway at Munro College.

Petersfield High’s Glenford Watson and Cornwall College’s Warren Barrett broke the meet records in the Class 1 and Class 2 discus throws both held by former Munro College thrower Emmanuel Oniya.

Watson who led from the start threw the discus 57.42m to beat the old mark of 52.26m set in 2012 and had just one throw under 54.00m his opening attempt of 52.59m.

Two Munro throwers Kino Dunkley and Drexel Maycock were second and third respectively with 49.49m and 48.75m.

Barrett trailed Munro’s Vicarie Elliot through the first round before taking the lead with 53.30m in the fourth round then went further with 53.83m in the next round.

Elliot was second with 52.75m while Petersfield’s Kevin Nedrick the pre-championships favourite who fouled his first two attempts finished third with 48.32m.

Petersfield’s Stevon Crooks won the Class 1 shot put with 16.55m ahead of his teammate Sanjae Lawrence- 15.03m with Drexel taking another bronze medal with 14.63m.

Herbert Morrison’s Basil Thompson won the Class 1 high jump with 2.00m ahead of Munro’s Kemar Sutherland-1.95m and Godfrey Stewart’s Asani Hylton —1.90m.

Munro’s Tariq Fullerton won the Class 1 1500m with 4 minutes 05.31 seconds; STETHS’ Jauavney James took Class 2 with 4 minutes 14.90 seconds while his brother Rushane Fullerton won Class 3 with 4 minutes 37.90 seconds.

Meanwhile defending champion Munro led the point’s tables after eight finals with 88 points from Petersfield High-75, STETHS-46, Cornwall College-26, Herbert Morrison-17, Lacovia-13, Green island-7, Godfrey Stewart and mannings-6, Green Pond and Muschett-4 each, Maggotty-3 and Balaclava-1.
