FROME, Westmoreland – NO team has ever won both the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rums Western Confederation Super League mid-season and overall title in the same season, but newly crowned mid-season champions Reno FC are not bothered.

Minutes after completing a 3-0 victory over Tomorrow’s People at Frome on Sunday afternoon, Michael Graham, coach of Reno FC, told Jamaica Observer West they were not worried about jinxes.

“We don’t matter about the jinx we don’t follow trends, we set standards,” he boasted.

Craig Foster scored twice and Alburn Facey got the other for Reno against Tomorrow’s People which finished the game with 10 players after central defender Damion Nelson was sent off in the 48th minute after getting his second yellow card.

Reno had topped the first round points tables with 23 points, two more than Tomorrow’s People, last season’s mid-season champions, who were tied with Savannah SC both on 21 points.

This was also the second time this season Reno were beating the St James team after a 2-0 margin in the second round of matches.

Graham stressed after Sunday’s win that they were not bothered by the jinx with the titles as they preferred to keep a positive outlook, arguing that “this is not a problem for us.”

“We always try to turn negatives into positives, how about we say we will be the first team to win both the mid-season and the finals?” he asked.

Last season both Tomorrow’s People and beaten mid-season finalist Wadadah FC had fielded below-strength teams, but Graham said they had no intention of doing that.

“Every game is important to us, final or not, and we play to win every game,” but added, however, that his team did not pick up the tempo until the second half.

“The game was up and down for us and we did not really settle until the second half, especially after they went down to 10 men. We really need to get the players to understand that this is the nature of the final; we have a good squad and we have to get them to be more competitive as the competition goes on,” he argued.

Tomorrow’s People had one chance at goal, a second-half free kick from Curtis Palmer that came off the cross bar, while Reno FC made use of their chances despite missing some easy scoring chances.

Foster gave Reno FC the lead in the 22nd minute when he picked off an errant pass and beat three Tomorrow’s People players, including goalkeeper Tito Dobson, to score in an empty goal.

He then made it 2-0 in the 71st minute when he was left unmarked at the far left post and tapped in a corner, while Facey powered home a header in the 78th minute.
