Shauna Helps — Carifta Under-17 100m Champion Wolmer’s Girls
1) When did you start track and field?
As early as basic school and at Wolmer’s Prep.
2)How did you get involved in track and field?
My parents always tell me that I was running before walking, before I was talking, so I guess it was kind a in me, plus my parents were very athletic as youths.
3) Who are your local and international track and field idols?
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, because even though she is Jamaican, she is the best in the world and a Wolmerian.
4) How do you rate your school’s chances in this year’s Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships?
Of course we just going out there to defend our Corporate Area championship title
5)Which school do you fear the most and why?
There are so many. That would definitely be Holmwood because they are stronger, their girls are definitely a threat.
6)How important is it for a student/athlete to have a solid education?
To me it’s very important. My academics definitely come first at all times, it’s my number one priority. Coming into Wolmer’s, Mrs Montague, Mr Carr, my parents always stressed that I am a student athlete, and at the end of the day, it’s books I have to fall back on.
7) What are your educational achievements to date?
Eight subjects with six distinctions in mathematics, English Language, English Literature, information technology, social studies, electronic document prep management. Plus biology and chemistry.
8) What is your ultimate life ambition?
Actually to compete on the world stage against the best and become a physiotherapist.
9) Who/what has had the biggest impact on your life thus far?
My record-breaking run in Class Three. It definitely changed my life a lot. I see my self as self-motivated.
