JAMAICA Observer online readers have summed up the police’s investigation into claims of a mass burial site in East Kingston as “one big joke”. In a release on the weekend, the police dismissed the existence of such a site, saying that their “intensive investigations” had proved the claim, made by an

ex-gang member in a Sunday Observer article nearly a month ago, to be false. However, the Observer has since revealed that the police visited the area only one day last week and that the only equipment they had were machetes and pick-axes that could not excavate the site to determine whether bodies were buried deep in the sand with heavy-duty equipment as the ex-gang member stated. Here are some edited comments:

As I did comment on the first article that there will be enough time for the police and gangster to cover up, I think that’s exactly what is happening right now. It just shows that we are not serious about fighting crime. After almost three weeks [after] this story was published, they (the police) are just investigating? How can we have police investigating something that they are involved in?

further questioned because there may be much more information he can give to the authorities. I don’t believe he lied about the burials; it’s possible that the erosions may have caused anything or anyone not deeply buried to have been washed out to sea.

Just looking at this picture says a lot. The gangster said heavy-duty equipment was used to bury those bodies.Yet, cops are going in with forks, sticks and machettes to dig. Are those cops really serious? Does the authorities even know about this operation and agreed to it being carried out? This is one big joke.

I can’t really believe all this stupidity: A team of police investigators armed with a machete and a garden fork converge on a site to uncover bodies that are suspected of been buried there by “heavy-duty equipment”.
