World Cup winner and Brazil legend Rivaldo made history as he shared a pitch with his son in the stadium named after his father.

Rivaldo, 41, came on as a substitute for Mogi Mirim as they drew 1-1 with XV de Piracicaba in a Sao Paolo State League match at the Estadio Romildo Ferreira.

It was the first time he had played alongside 18-year-old Rivaldo Junior.

Teenager Rivaldinho has a lot to live up to if he wants to follow in the footsteps of his famous old man.

In a trophy-laden career, Rivaldo scooped the Ballon D’Or in 1999 in the middle of a five-year spell at Barcelona that saw him lift a UEFA Super Cup, two La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey.

He was champion of the world with Brazil in 2002 and added a Champions League crown the following year after joining Italian giants AC Milan.

Despite winning the World Cup in the Far East, Rivaldo also made headlines at the tournament for getting Turkey’s Hakan Unsal sent off after pretending he had been hit in the face after the defender hit him in the thigh with the ball. Rivaldo was fined £7,800 by FIFA.

Rivaldo, who also turned out for Santa Cruz, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Deportivo La Coruna, Cruzeiro, Olympiacos, AEK Athens, Bunyodkor, Sao Paulo, Kabuscorp and Sao Caetano, returned for a second stint with Mogi Mirim in December last year having turned out for them at the start of his career. He is also club president.
