Jamaica beat T&T 3-0 in Junior Fed Cup
JAMAICA defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 in their 2014 North, Central America and Caribbean (NCAC) pre qualifying tournaments, for the Junior Confederation (FED) Cup for girls in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, yesterday.
At press time last evening the Jamaican boys were in action against Trinidad and Tobago in the Davis Cup competition.
Representing Jamaica girls in the singles of the Federation Cup, were Shaeda Nickle and Allana Blackwood.
Blackwood, seeded at number two in the singles, brushed aside her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, while Nickle had to work much harder before beating her opponent in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3 tie-breaker). Both teamed up in the doubles to beat the Trinidadian pair in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
The Jamaican boys and girls will play their next game against Puerto Rico.
Jamaica’s team consists of Daniel Hill, Cliff Dwyer and Kyle Martin for the Junior Davis Cup for boys ,with Peter Campbell as coach, while the girls Junior Confederation (FED) Cup is made up of Shaeda Nickle, Leah Smyle and Allana Blackwood.
The Jamaicans are expected to play each of the participating countries in a tournament scheduled to end on Sunday. The tournament is being played on a roundrobin format.
The other participating countries are Aruba, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Puerto Rico, Suriname, United States, (US) Virgin Islands and host Dominican Republic.
