Phase Two, Panorama champs by a point
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Defending Panorama champions, PETROTRIN Phase Two Pan Groove successfully held on to its title by a single point as the Carnival celebrations continue in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
The Len ‘Boogsie’ Sharpe arranged band won the TT$1 million (One TT dollar = US$0.16 cents) prize ahead of the Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars that received 286 points with BP Renegades coming third with 283 points in the competition that began late on Saturday night.
All Stars was seeking a ninth title with its composition ‘Excitement’ but the Woodbrook-based band held its nerve with the tune ‘Jump High’ to secure the top spot.
Meanwhile, the Diamanche Gras show gets into high gear on Sunday night with the highlight being the Calypso Monarch competition where Pink Panther (Eric Taylor) will seek to retain his title from a field of 12 competitors that include three former winners.
The competition is being held against the background of the refusal by the government to increase by 100 per cent, the one million dollar first prize.
