SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — IAN Samuels, the West End Negril native accused of marrying a Canadian woman while he was still married, is scheduled to return to the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court today to answer to a charge of bigamy and three counts of forgery.

Samuels, 36, who has been living in Canada since 2009 — two years after he married his second wife in the resort town of Negril — pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Collymore Gordon on January 14 to answer to the charges.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of $400,000 with surety.

As part of the bail condition, the RM ordered that he be finger-printed, his travel documents seized, a stop order be placed on him at the island’s ports, and that he reports to the Negril Police Station every Friday between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.

It is alleged that Samuels used his marriage to his second wife to obtain permanent resident status in Canada.

He was arrested and charged by members of the Fraud Squad in January just days before he was scheduled to depart the island for Canada, after a three-week vacation in the resort town of Negril.
