‘Wheelz’ on show at the National Stadium
DESPITE the low turnout of patrons, Andrew Lee-Sing is satisfied with Ash Wednesday’s staging of Heelz N Wheelz car show held on the grounds of the National Stadium in St Andrew.
“The turnout was not as good as in previous stagings. But, given the current economic situation, we are encourged, as patrons got value for their money,” he told Auto.
The dip in patronage did not dampen the offerings on display. It was a full day of vehicles, beautiful women and music. The latest hotrods, trucks, and super bikes decorated the venue. A couple of ‘vintages’ also made this year’s cut.
“We had about 50 to 60 cars on display,” said Lee-Sing.
He said all the island’s major car crews were represented.
“We had displays from Manchester, St James, St Elizabeth, as well as those in the Corporate Area,” he continued.
Car crews included Skunk Nation, Speed Factory, Wilmotor Sport, Team Myzery, 876-Racing, National Drag Racing Circuit team, as well as Crazy Bikers.
Classic car collector Victor Dixon drove his vintage Rolls Royce to the event for display.
The event organisers held fast to their new time schedule for the competition portion of the show as the first contest kicked off at 3:00 p.m. While there were small hiccups, caused by patrons who suddenly wanted to particpate, it followed smoothly enthralling the crowds. Prizes were given out for Best Honda, Best Toyota, Best Paint Job, Lowest Ride and Best Lights.
“We need to find some incentives for the competitors to come out early and eliminate the lag in the judging,” said Lee-Sing.
Patron Richard Fletcher said he was pleased with the event.
“The cars were excellent. They were in pristine condition, from old-school to the latest models. However, it is clear we live in a Honda nation,” he said.
According to Fletcher, Hondas took the lion’s share of the display.
The stage show which followed the show, was also well-received. The package included Kalado and up-and-coming artiste Hammerman.
“Heelz N Wheelz caters to the high-end market when it comes to show cars,” Lee-Sing added.
