Granville Wolfpack hunt third-straight win
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Granville Wolfpack will hope to win their third-straight game in the National Supplies Western Basketball Association Men’s Basketball Championships today when they take on Lightning Blitz in the first game of a rescheduled double-header at UWI, Western Jamaica Campus, starting at 6:00 pm.
Granville are coming off a big 57-22 win over UWI last weekend for their second-straight win and will face a Blitz team that was hammered 50-28 by leaders Sav Elite Titans, winners of four straight games.
In the second game today, Knibb Thunder will face Muschett Thunder starting at 7:30 pm, while two more games will also be played tomorrow at the same venue.
Holland Saints and Cornwall Court Chargers will meet in the first game at 6:00 pm followed by UWI, losers of all three games played so far, against Spartans.
Sav lead the points standing with eight points from their four wins, followed by Inner-City Avalanche on seven; Boys’ Club Warriors are next on six points followed by three teams, Knibb Thunder, Lightning Blitz and Cornwall Courts Chargers. MoBay Community College Gladiators, Spartans and Wolfpack are all on four points, one more than Holland Saints and UWI, while Muschett Falcons are on two points after just one win and a forfeit.
Sav blew out Blitz in Whithorn on Sunday to maintain their perfect win record with Richard Munro and Richard Chambers combining for 22 points, as Tevin Brown led Blitz’s response with 12 points, and Alwyn Newsome scored nine points and had 13 rebounds.
Avalanche rebounded from last week’s loss to beat Spartans by 14 points, 54-40, outscoring them 32-21 over the final two quarters.
Three players scored in double figures for Avalanche, Dovial Smith had 12 points, Kaniel McKenzie had 10 points to go with 10 rebounds, while Omar Stephenson also scored 10 points.
Alwayne Beadle led Spartans with nine points.
Davian Thelwell and Ivaughn Lee both scored double-doubles for Granville Wolfpack in the win over UWI and led 11-2, 20-12 and 31-20 at the intervals.
Thelwell scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds, while Lee scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds for Granville, as Kyle Hector’s eight points led UWI.
In the other game, Sheldon Lyle had a game-high 17 points for Boys’ Club Warriors as they got the better of Gladiators. Dwayne Jackson had 14 points and 14 rebounds to support Lyle, as Clifton Shettleworth scored 16 points to lead Gladiators.
