Salt Marsh new Zone One leaders in Trelawny Major League
COOPERS PEN, Trelawny — Promoted Salt Marsh United are the new leaders in Zone One of the Trelawny Football Association Monymusk White Overproof Rums Major League after last weekend’s round of matches.
Salt Marsh beat second-placed Coopers Pen 2-0, while Harmony FC, leaders coming into the round, were surprised 2-1 by Classic United.
The results left Salt Marsh on top with 14 points, two more than Harmony FC, with Coopers Pen slipping a place to third on 11 points.
Wakefield United also moved up in Zone Two joining leaders Prospect Links on 17 points, one more than Kinloss FC, after their 2-0 win over Flames FC.
After a setback in the previous round where they lost to Clarks Town, Salt March rebounded with their fourth win with goals from Knotshugh Davis in the 45th minute, and Ramon Brown in the 58th minute in the game played at Coopers Pen field.
Classic United came from a goal down in the last two minutes of the game at Bounty Hall to hand Harmony FC their second loss of the season. Nickoy Anderson’s 12th-minute goal had given Harmony the lead and they looked to be on their way to a win before Classic United hit back.
Omar Hemmings equalised for Classic in the 88th minute before Terrence Cousley scored the winner as time elapsed in the 90th minute.
Wakefield All-Stars moved ahead of Kinloss FC into joint first place in Zone Two with their second 2-0 win over Flames this season.
Marvel Clayton in the 20th minute and Decoy Palmer in the 31st were the scorers for Wakefield, as Prospect Links were held 1-1 by Spicy Hill.
Prospect Links went ahead as early as the second minute of the game through Ronaldo Scott and appeared well set for another 1-0 victory over last season’s beaten finalists.
A last minute goal from Renford Gibson, however, salvaged a point for Spicy Hill, but they are still well off the pace on 10 points in fourth place and six points behind third-placed Kinloss, who also played out a 1-1 draw with Invaders.
Rennard McDonald scored Invaders’ second goal of the season in the 60th minute, but Girvent Dixon scored his fifth three minutes later as Kinloss drew the game.
In one other game, Clarks Town made it two wins in a row and increased their unbeaten run to four games with a 2-0 win over Bunkers Hill So Fresh.
Dhane Johnson in the 40th and Davian Williams in the 70th gave Clarks Town their second win over Bunkers Hill after winning 2-1 in the first round.
