Sandals hosts free health fair for employees
SCORES of team members were recent beneficiaries of a health fair hosted at Sandals Whitehouse with the resort dedicating the day to health awareness, testing and prevention for its employees.
Sandals Whitehouse, through its partnership with key health care entities including the Ministry of Health, Executive Ground Ambulance Services Limited, Royale Pharmacy Savanna-la-Mar, Tourism Product Development Company, and Omega Medical Services were able to provide a wide range of services with no expense to employees.
Among the services offered were HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, condom demonstrations, blood pressure checks, urinalysis, Electro Cardiogram testing, information on cancer prevention, asthma control and care, nutritional guidance and weight loss counseling, medical checkups and consultations and provision of free vitamins and protein shakes for persons on the go.
According to Vilma Smith, the resort’s environment health and safety manager, , “it is important that our team members know more about their health and wellbeing.”
” It was with this in mind that we decided to stage this event as a way of ensuring that they have access to regular check-ups and are privy to certain health information passed on to them by professionals in the sector,” she explained, while expressing her appreciation to the team, led by General Manager Courtney Miller and all the external partners for their efforts and involvement in making the day a huge success.
Team members were equally appreciative.
“It was like a one-stop shop feeling. I could get my blood pressure checked, know my HIV status, and stack up on some much needed vitamins all within my one hour lunch break. I appreciated all of that,” voiced Sherine Foster.
The health fair represents phase one of a three-part series that will see Sandals Whitehouse conducting a ‘Keep Fit’ walkathon throughout the region and staging a free health fair and expo in the community of Whitehouse in the latter part of the year.
