Boys’ Club, Norwood Strikers clash in StJFA KO quarter-finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James – STRUGGLING Western Confederation Super League teams Montego Bay Boys Club and Norwood Strikers will get the chance to salvage their season, when they meet in the quarter-finals of the St James Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout competition at the UDC field this afternoon, starting at 3:00pm.
Both teams are in the relegation zone in the Super League, Boys Club in ninth position and Norwood Strikers in last place, but a win today would see them advance to the semi-finals where they would face Granville United.
On form Boys Club must be given the nod to advance after winning two of their last three games in the Super League, while Norwood have lost their last eight games.
In their previous round of the Knockout, Boys Club had eliminated Catherine Hall 1-0, while Norwood beat Division one team Irwin FC 4-2 on penalty kicks after they had drawn 1-1 in regulation.
Meanwhile, defending champions Montego Bay United just managed to keep their defence alive after a goal in time added on at the end of the game from Kevaughn Atkinson, helped them beat Tomorrow’s People at WesPow Park last week.
Tomorrow’s People came from behind twice, but were beaten by the goal in time added on, which knocked them out after two rounds, and saw MBU advance to the semi-finals where they will play the winner of the game between Wadadah FC and Lilliput Rovers.
In another game played, Leon Irving’s 22nd minute goal gave MBU the lead, but Curtis Palmer equalised in the 37th minute.
Mouracio Gordon then scored to send MBU back into the lead, but Nicholas Stewart levelled the scores again in the 90th minute.
Atkinson then scored four minutes into time added, as MBU advanced to the final four.
