Bubbling Angeline ready to ‘pop’ as the ‘Princess’ ops out of Thornbird
The connections of Horse of the Year, Princess Popstar have decided to bypass the final official preparation race for the three-year-old Classics, the Thornbird Stakes, thereby opening a huge opportunity for other fillies to make use of the $1.1m being offered for the seven-furlong event for fillies only.
Although appearing on the list of horses preliminarily entered for the Thornbird issued on Monday last by the Racing Office, Princess Popstar’s entry might have had the effect of warding off potential starters, as only six horses are entered for this coveted event, albeit with the Horse of the Year absent.
Six of the fairer sex will face Mr. Starter tomorrow in the Thornbird.
1. River Mamma (112) Paul Francis Paul Smith
Started well but in her second outing was dispatched with ease by Queen Paula and Miss Juanita and although the figure 8 has been added, River Mamma gives the distinct impression of liking shorter distances.
2. All Correct (112) Dick Cardenas Wayne DaCosta
Developing quite nicely with a convincing maiden win. Seems to be doing the right things at exercise. Her performance here will no doubt give a clearer understanding of All Correct’s true potential. Watch her closely.
3. BUBBLING ANGELINE (126) Winston Griffiths Philip Feanny
The top rated in this field with her four career wins from six starts, qualifying her for the Overnight Allowance category. Many pundits believe that Bubbling Angeline would be the best of this crop if not for the presence of her stable-mate, Princess Popstar. Noteworthy in her form line is the fact that Bubbling Angeline has been beaten on the two occasions she has ventured beyond six and a half furlongs, once by Princess Popstar and the second by Force De Jour. But racing in what is really a non-winners of two field, Bubbling Angeline will be the odds on favourite to win.
4. MISS JUANITA Shamaree Muir Wayne DaCosta
Chewed up by Queen Paula in the Hotline, at level weights and coming into this event surprisingly handing Queen Paula two pounds, will have a climb Everest to win.
5. KABRINA Rudolph Hardial
Has put in the racing time but will have to come up with a real supreme effort to win this one and that is not anticipated.
6. QUEEN PAULA Orlando Foster Lorenzo Robinson
Queen Paula has registered two good wins to date, one over All Correct on debut and one over Miss Juanita in the Hotline. Comes here better at the handicaps and is expected to be the danger should Bubbling Angeline fall short. Developing well at this stage and no one would begrudge trainer, owner and breeder, Lorenzo Robinson if Queen Paula triumphs tomorrow. Should not a problem with the journey.
