UWI students spread Good Governance in high schools
UWI Mona’s Governance Society, backed by the Guardian Group, made Ticthfield High School in Port Antonio, Portland the destination last Thursday in their campaign to spread awareness of Good Governance in high schools. The student-led movement from the Department of Government, saw students and lecturers alike pushing this agenda.
Phillippa Paisley, Vice-President of the Governance Society explained that the series of high school tours is an initiative which “aims to facilitate and promote good governance, integration and continued participation of young people in the formulation and implementation of national development policies and programmes in Jamaica”.
The event which hosted over 250 students featured dub poetry, animated videos, short PowerPoint presentations, question and answer sessions as well as giveaways, keeping students interested in the message. “So far, the students and teachers are giving positive feedback. You can see it in their bright smiles in our photos in our famous frame on our facebook page”, Paisley added.
Apart from Titchfield High School, the Governance Society has also ventured into Seaforth High School in St Thomas and plans to continue the journey in St Mary, Manchester and Westmoreland.
