WHILE the turnout may not have equalled the two previous weeks, the vibe was just as great at Bacchanal Fridays held at Mas Camp in St Andrew, last Friday.

This was acheived by stylings of guest Trinidadian selector DJ Myles as well as ZJ Sparks and DJ Sanjay who ‘conquered’ the crowd and made them ‘surrender’.

“I appreciate the Jamaican crowd because, just like back home, they have a genuine reaction to the music,” DJ Myles told the Jamaica Observer.

The 32-year-old, whose given name is Myles Grant, used his eight years of experience spinning on the twin-island republic’s Slam 100.5FM, to good effect, rolling through a playlist he said was specifically tailored for the Jamaican audience.

“I play for an urban station back home, but I guess being Trini, I’m automatically a soca expert. There’s a lot more soca back home, and I realise people here might not know certain songs, so I play what they’ll recognise,” he explained.

And recognise they did, as DJ Myles closed the party creating a long soca train of revellers dancing around the centred DJ booth in the wee hours of the morning.

Caught up in the action was hardcore soca fan Alexan Stewart.

“I love it. Been to all the previous events,” she said.

She said she has already purchased her costume for the April 27 road march to jump to hits like Machel Montano’s Happiest Man Alive, Mr Killa’s Rolly Polly, Behaving the Worst and Differentology from Bunji Garlin, all songs which DJ Myles had in his arsenal.

“I’ll be back for a few other engagements, but especially the road march,” said DJ Myles, who was enjoying his eighth visit to the island.

Each of the other two DJs had their moments, with Sanjay letting his music do the talking. DJ Sparks went the other route, using her energy to drive crowd interaction.

As Fame 95FM joined the festivities with their social media ‘Rolly Polly’ video contest, Sparks managed to convince three young ladies to get onto the DJ Tower to display their waist-rolling skills, much to the enjoyment of everyone.

Bacchanal Fridays continues this week with a live performance by Trinidad and Tobago’s Roy Cape All Stars featuring Blaxx. The soca singers are known for songs like Leh Go and Breathless.
