CONCACAF gen-sec Sanz to be treated for leukemia

MIAMI, Florida (CMC) — General Secretary Enrique Sanz will undergo treatment for leukemia, CONCACAF announced here yesterday.

The Colombia-born official has served in his current role since July 2012, following the cash-for-vote scandal which resulted in a shake-up of the confederation.

“The CONCACAF community expresses its full support to Mr Sanz and his family during this challenging period and wishes him a speedy and full recovery,” CONCACAF said in a statement.

“We thank everyone for respecting Mr Sanz and his family’s wishes for privacy during this time.”

Sanz joined CONCACAF in the wake of the scandal that resulted in the resignation of long-standing general secretary Chuck Blazer.

He had preciously served as vice-president of South American soccer marketing agency Traffic Sports USA and founder and chief executive of Media Sports Marketing.

CONCACAF is the continental governing body for football in North, Central American and the Caribbean.
